Schiavo: End of Life Culture of Death Advances

The Genocide Awareness Project at the University of Georgia.
On Good Friday March 25, 2005, CBR Midwest led a prayer vigil for Terri Schiavo at the Ohio State House.  The Congress, President Bush, Florida's State legislature, and Governor Jeb Bush all failed to reinstitute the feeding tube and hydrate Terri.  Since all appeals to earthly government failed, CBR Midwest felt it was necessary to gather Christians from diverse dominations together to petition the highest court of justice.  The Columbus Dispatch wrote:

Mark Harrington, director of the center's Midwest branch who also has a radio show on WRFD (880 AM) in Columbus, drew some parallels to the Crucifixion.  While Jesus was crucified, he said, the Roman guards at least had the decency to give him something to drink.  "This is a dark day for our country,'' Harrington said. "This is just bringing it out in the open for all to see.  Are we a culture of life or a culture of death?''

After Terri passed, CBR Midwest organized a memorial.  The Columbus Dispatch reported:

Mark Harrington said Schiavo’s death produced two lessons: that government cannot save us, and that God is sending us messages.  “The very day that Terri’s feeding tube was removed the Pope was having one inserted.”  Harrington urged the religious community to heed future calls.  “If the televised starvation of an innocent woman won’t wake us up, I shudder to think of what will.”

As I write, three Ohio State House Representatives have sponsored legislation to prevent a repeat of the Terri Schiavo tragedy in Ohio.  We may have lost the battle to save Terri Schiavo’s life, but we haven’t lost the overall war to defend the innocent.   CBR is committed to educating Americans on life and death issues all across the continuum.  The struggle is far from over!  Thanks to your prayers and financial support, CBR Midwest is a beacon for the sanctity of ALL human life not only the preborn.

On March 30-31, 2005 CBR displayed GAP at UGa.  GAP keeps changing lives! Read these accounts:

I saw this [GAP] display my freshman year and at that time I considered myself ‘pro-choice’ but after seeing your display, I completely oppose abortion.  —Female, UGa Senior

I absolutely welcome the pictures of dead babies, lynchings and mass extermination. I appreciate the fact that these folks are being forthright and true to what they believe.  —David Clark, Chief Copy Editor for the UGa Newspaper

The pictures allow intelligent, rational and humanitarian-minded college students to make informed decisions regarding a delicate situation. —Stephen Bell, UGa Junior, Major: International Business

It's an effective way to get attention. —Paul Keen, UGa Senior

I'm glad it was brought out into the open to make everyone aware of how horrible abortion is. —Sara Jones, UGa freshman

Right to Life Hears CBR’s Challenging Message

Mark Harrington does an interview outside the State House.
Champaign County Right to Life held its annual banquet on April 7 at West Liberty Salem High School.   Mark Harrington talked about the realities of abortion.

Mr. Harrington said, “The violence that is shown on television on a daily basis pales in comparison to what we as Americans have chosen to allow to happen to the innocent life of our great country.  We continue to be reminded of the images of holocaust victims and should also be shown what we are voting for and allowing to happen in this country through abortion procedures,” Harrington said.

David George, Vice President of the Champaign County Right to Life Board, also spoke and ask his group to consider whether Champaign County Right to Life should use similar images.  Thanks to your support, CBR’s influence is growing!

Please support CBR Midwest!  I am currently being forced to make some tough budget decisions.  I don’t want to cut back on our projects or staff.  I want CBR Midwest to keep changing hearts.  You can help CBR Midwest continue to be a strong voice in our communities.  Please write a special financial gift to CBR Midwest as soon as possible or consider increasing your monthly support by $5-$20 per month to help us keep up the fight.

Running the race to win,
